Oil terms and phrases
Viscosity: Measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow (because of its molecules internal friction), which its wrong term as density is common too. This specification is one of the most important features of any fluid (such as oil, shampoo, honey, water…) which in tests, usually is measured in 40 and 100°C. Fluid viscosity is a function of temperature; it tends to decrease as its temperature increases and vice versa.
Viscosity index(VI): A commonly used measure of a fluid’s change of viscosity with temperature. The higher the viscosity index, the smaller the relative change in viscosity with temperature, and in the engine and industrial oils, the high viscosity index indicates good quality of product. VI determines that an oil how to react in a defined conditions. An oil with very high VI may not be pumped properly to engine parts, and this happens mostly in low temperatures, and oil pressure in high gears may increase very much. Viscosity index of the Ecco V Prima 10W40 is higher than Ecco V 16000 20W50.
Pour Point: Lowest temperature at which an oil or distillate fuel is observed to flow, when cooled under conditions prescribed by test method ASTM D 97. For example Ecco V 12000 20W50 can flow up to -24°C.
Flash Point: The temperature to which a combustible liquid must be heated to give off sufficient vapor to form momentarily a flammable mixture with air when a small flame is applied under specified conditions (ASTM Designation D 92). This test is done to measure the flammability and volatility of oil, which this temperature for Ecco V Liso 10W40 is more than 230°C.
